A native of New Orleans, graduate of Newcomb College and Tulane University Graduate School, I have worked most of my adult life in creative fields as interior designer, renovator, builder, and teacher. A lifetime art collector, I have recently returned to my first love of creating beautiful images through drawing and painting. The coastal areas of Louisiana and Mississippi with their atmospheric light and expressive live oaks and peaceful tidal marshes continue to inspire me today. Lately i have sought these places with an increased sense of urgency as they remain under threat from both natural disasters and manmade destruction in the name of 'progress.'
I am not at all interested in hyperrealism. What I want to convey is the deep soul truth of the scene, the emotion it stirs in me, the surreal song of light dancing. I take great joy in painting from the heart and allowing each piece to evolve in the art process. I hope that my works serve to document moments that the painter Robert Henri in his book 'The Art Spirit' called "states of higher awareness." Of these moments, Henri wrote, "The pictures are a witness."
